Edinburgh botanic gardens

Possibly one of the most beautiful, diverse well kept gardens I’ve been to.

So much to see it was information overload. The highlight for me where the giant redwoods they have plants there from the 1800s. Also the massive greenhouses. Walking through each of the different greenhouses microclimates was so interesting. Seeing the coffee plants and cocoa plants were cool! They were fruiting and now I know where two of my favourite foods come from haha.

Here are a few pics of some of the interesting flowers that where in bloom inside the green houses and a cheaky squirrl who came over to us for some food!

Beltane fire festival Edinburgh

This ancient Celtic festival marks the changing of the seasons in an Iron age ritual of performance and lighting of the ceremonial Beltane bonfire.  Set on Calton hill in Edinburgh, a procession of different characters paraded and performed around the hill.

There was wild dancing, drumming and offerings made to the different characters involved. The procession stopped at various points around the hill and a performance took place. The actors were amazing! Completely in character and not holding back. The costumes, installations and art were also so well done! Beautiful pieces were present across the hill. The lighting of the fire arch was one of the most spectacular events along with the igniting of the bonfire at the end. It was a windy night and the fire was roaring around. The heat was intense from it.

Here’s a guide to the different characters on the night: Characters.

It was hard to photograph with the crowds and it being night time but here are some of my favourites from the evening. Click in and enjoy.

Festival of Holi

It was so much fun to shoot the celebration event of Holi in front square in Trinity College Dublin on Monday. This Hindu Festival represents the coming of spring, victory of good over evil and Love. It’s an ancient Hindu festival and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest.

The sun was beaming down and the crowd were ecstatic throwing the colours in the air and at each other. Trying to get shots off was challenging but all part of the fun! Still trying to get the colours out of my hair and camera haha…

I’d love to get to India some day for the real deal! Pray to Vishnu.
